Cause and Effect - Question 3
Last week we discussed cause and effect in class. Today, I would like you to take one event in your novel, and show the many different causes that led to your event. Was there any point where the characters could have changed the outcome? What would happen then? For example, in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, what would have happened if Ron and Hermione had not accompanied Harry down the trap door after Quirrell?

My cause and effect in my novel is that there's a man named ken and he's going to school and him going to school is good until he meet a guy named Brett who introduced him to a drug called marijuana. After doing the drug for about a week he was doing bad in school and the cause and effect in my novel is that when ken started using drugs his school work and grades turned out to fall threw the roof. That’s my cause and effect.
One event in my book was the peasant becoming a sniper, and then becoming the hero of Stalingrad. He became that because he saved a political officer from being shot, and then picked up a rifle and shot the shooter plus three other German officers. After that they went back and the officer showed off his new friend which saved him. Then becoming a star sniper for the Russian sniper division.

Larry beats up Ben. The causes for this were Larry was drunk. Anger problems and he has a habit of wanting everything his way. I don’t think there would have been a change in the outcome. Ben was always afraid to defend himself.

There are many different causes for the effect in my novel. The effect in my story resulted in a very bad accident. Some of the causes were that kids got made fun of and the kids had a lot of anger in their body. I think if the character tried to do anything about the event then more people would have been killed.

I’m reading a book about this kid who is having his 12th birthday. His little sister pulls a prank on him when he’s walking home from school. He sees a bunch of blood on the sidewalk and he freaks out. Then, he realizes that his little sister had poured ketchup all over the sidewalk to scare him.

In my book, the main character’s brother just died, that is the effect.
In the story, what led up to him dying was first, him and his brother got in a fight over who’s turn it was to wear a shirt. The main character, Brian, got the shirt and his brother, Mike, just rode pissed off to school. On his way, however, he was killed by a car accident.

The Tuck family drank from the spring. The effects of that event are first, they live
forever. Second, they can’t get hurt at all. Third, they can do anything they want. There was not a point where they could have changed the outcome. They could have not drank out of the stream in the first place. If they were to not drink from it, they would have died after many years. Those were the effect of drinking out of the spring.

Well, in “The Roses that grew from the concrete”, Tupac wrote a poem about a best friend of his. Jada the Poem, talks about how a man and a woman can be the best of friends and still be no more than just a friend, without affection or sex.
That’s what he was trying to say but I think it’s other people around that have to say things is the result of things like two friends not really being in a sexual relationship but just casual.
I see many of you beginning to think about your novels more deeply. I wonder why the author chose to let his/her characters follow the path they did? Many of your plots seem to have negative consequences. Is the author trying to tell the reader something important there?
